Introduction to Luke:-

Luke Haynes is an internationally celebrated artist and a pillar of the modern quilting movement. Over the past 20 years, he has redefined what quilting can be - transforming recycled textiles into breathtaking portraits, architectural installations, and public artworks. His pieces have been exhibited over 200 times around the world and are held in the permanent collections of the Asheville Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum, The Bill and Melinda Gates

Foundation, and many more!

Raised in the American South and deeply influenced by the traditions of craft and storytelling, Luke has developed a practice that’s both technically masterful and deeply human. He created one of the first methods for photo-realistic quilting, a technique now taught and admired across the globe. And he’s committed to sustainability, having saved tons of textiles from landfills through his work. But beyond all the accolades, what truly sets Luke apart is his generosity as a teacher. He brings thoughtfulness, clarity and care into every classroom, making space for each student to feel empowered in their creativity.

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

In this class, we’ll explore a fresh and creative approach to quilting - by making quilts from quilt blocks themselves! Most of us have extra quilt blocks tucked away - leftovers from past projects or experiments that never found a home. But what if, instead of letting them sit unused, we treated those blocks as our new fabric? Together, we’ll dive into the playful process of cutting into our existing quilt blocks and combining them in unexpected ways to create entirely new blocks. It’s all about reimagining, repurposing, and building something beautiful out of what we already have. By the end of the class, you’ll learn how to transform orphaned blocks into cohesive, dynamic compositions - essentially, building with blocks from blocks.

 

Come ready to experiment, deconstruct, and rebuild. Let’s give those forgotten blocks a brand new life!...

This class will suit ANY level of expertise, from Beginner to Advanced!

 

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-​

• Extra unused finish quilt blocks from older projects. Bring a variety of different patterns, colours, etc! The more diverse, the more interesting to play with! Anything you have will be great!...

• 1 yard of a simple fabric to fill in any holes or needs. I suggest white or black or something to match your overall palette of colours in the block!

 

Equipment requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

• Sewing Machine 

• Rotary Cutter

• Iron

• Cutting Mat

Tickets for this Online Interactive Workshop (via the Zoom platform) will be limited and allocated on a first-come/first-served basis! Any free pattern and other information, relevant to this course will be forwarded to you after booking and approximately 5 days before the course date.
