Introduction to Lucy:-

Lucy grew up in the idyllic countryside of the Peak District, where her passion for stitching began at an early age. She started by helping her mum make wedding dresses when she was just three years old. Over the years, her talent and dedication have led her to work on pieces for prestigious clients and companies such as Alexander McQueen, Burberry, and Catherine Walker, among others. A passionate advocate and ambassador for hand embroidery, Lucy is classically trained, holding a first-class honours degree in the craft. In 2022, she joined Hand & Lock as the Head of Education.

Lucys goal is to ensure that each student not only masters the technical skills but also develops their unique artistic voice, further contributing to the evolution of contemporary embroidery.

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Discover the magical world of celestial goldwork embroidery with this 3 hour embroidery taster. Our beautiful exclusive Goldwork tasters are the perfect introduction to metal thread work and its applications. Goldwork is the art of embroidery using metal threads. Historically associated with ceremonial and military uniform the technique is now also popular in customization, couture and interior design. Using threads that are imitation gold, silver, copper, or coloured allows embroiderers to create metallic surface designs that reflect light and create dazzling effects.

Over the course of this three hour taster course, you will learn three Goldwork embroidery techniques. The first technique you will learn is couching down Pearl Purl. This is a beautiful edging technique and can be applied to a range of different projects. You will also learn how to add sparkle with chipping and how to add tiny details with a single strand of passing thread.

We will send over the pattern to transfer onto your fabric prior to the workshop via a googledrive link. You must transfer the design onto the fabric prior to the workshop. You can either trace the design onto your fabric using a light box or you can use Prick and Pounce:-
