Moda And Me!

Here at CraftyMonkies we love providing you with classes that will not just teach you a technique or ask you to follow a pattern, but to also help you in your creative journey. One of the questions often asked is how to put colours, ideas and themes together for your quilts, so who better to help you than fabulous Moda fabric designer Janet Clare who has to create fabric collections on a yearly basis! Janet has come up with a really interesting concept, whereby she will show you how she creates a fabric range, but also she will inspire and teach you to create your own colours & themes in your future creations. Here's Janet to tell you more!...

Introduction by Janet:-

I’m a textile designer and artist creating two fabric collections a year for Moda and this year I will design my 26th and 27th collections! Moda don’t ask their designers to design to colour trends or trending themes, it’s entirely up to each designer to create a fabric collection based on their own interests and inspiration.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get creative and not feel restricted, but of course blank pages can be intimidating! So, believe me when I say that through the years I know how to gather inspiration, build a colour story and perhaps most importantly how to keep myself motivated through the long process of turning a doodle in my sketchbook into a repeat pattern in multiple colourways for the quilting market. I think there are so many things I can teach you that will help you in your future quilting endeavors! As I have worked with many students across the years, inspiration and color choices can often seem intimidating. I want to cut through all of that for you and open your world to the possibilities in front of you!

What you will learn on this Online Interactive Workshop:-

I'm going to give you a unique insight and share every step of my creative practice, starting from the first glimpse of an idea, how I use Pinterest, to creating moodboards, building colour stories, my sketchbooks and finally working up the final designs into repeat. I'm hoping you will find this so inspirational that you begin to use sketchbooks for yourself. Its not only with an 'end game' in mind, its also an incredibly therapeutic practice I would encourage you to try. I will also share what happens after I turn in my finished collections- how my painted patterns get transformed into fabric which is sold all around the world. during this time you will have plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and also see the (top secret) collection I am currently working on. But it doesn't end there in this class. During the workshop you will also create your own moodboard and colour story, helping you become more confident with choosing colour combinations, tonal values and colour placement. I'm going to give you the instruction and tips I've learned across the year in order to be able to do this. I guarantee at the end of this workshop you will have so many new ideas and a much better idea of colour placement, along with some tips on how you can create your own fabrics to play with.
