We're beyond excited to be hosting the second of two bag-making classes over one September weekend, namely this Cumbria Tote Bag workshop with the wonderfully engaging & hugely talented Svetlana Sotak! This class will see participants make Svetlana's NEW pattern; indeed this will be the very first outing for this wonderful design and, based on past experience, we fully expect to be over-subscribed so please be sure to book your place in plenty of time to avoid disappointment!...

Introduction by Svetlana:-

If you’d like to learn how to sew my fabulous Cumbria Tote Bag, featuring a super-handy zipper pocket divider, then this class is most definitely for you! The finished bag is 10’’wide on the bottom x 9’’ tall x 4’’ deep which is just the right size to be used as an everyday handbag, but would also make a wonderful project bag. I very much hope you'll be excited by my latest project and look forward to welcoming you onto the workshop!...

What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-

In this workshop you will learn:

• How to construct a unique zipper pocket divider
• How to shorten a nylon zipper and add fabric tabs for a professional finish
• How to make your own sturdy and durable fabric handles
• Lots of tips and tricks on how to ensure your topstitching is as neat looking as possible
• What materials work best in bagmaking

Fabric requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Svetlana's Suggested Fabrics are as follows:-

FABRIC A, B - Canvas, Essex linen, cotton/linen blend fabric, denim, medium weight home décor fabric

FABRIC C, D, E - Quilting cotton

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

(Fabric requirements are based on 42'' wide fabric)

FQ (Fat-Quarter) of Fabric measuring 18'' tall x 21'' wide

• FABRIC A (Main Exterior Panel A) – 1 FQ
• FABRIC B (Main Exterior Panel B + handles) – 1 FQ
• FABRIC C (Lining) – 1/2 yard
• FABRIC D (Pocket Divider – Exterior) – 1 FQ
• FABRIC E (Pocket Divider – Lining) – 1 FQ
• INTERFACING (Pellon SF101 or Vlieseline G700) – 2 yards
• #3 NYLON ZIPPER – 10'' or longer
• HEAVY DUTY SNAP – one (1)

IMPORTANT NOTE:-

Svetlana used different prints for the main lining, exterior of the pocket divider, as well as its lining, to make it easy for you to see which panels she was working with. You can, however, opt to use the same fabric for the lining as well as the pocket divider for a seamless look. Just remember to adjust the fabric requirements, if you do so!

Equipment/Supplies required for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

• Cutting Mat, Ruler, and Rotary-Cutter
• Wonder Clips and/or Pins
• Disappearing Fabric Marker or fine Chalk Pen
• Utility Scissors and Fabric Shears
• Zipper Foot for your sewing-machine
• 90/14 or 100/16 needle for your sewing machine
