Online Interactive Workshop: Quilted Trucker Hat!

A hugely talented and NEW Tutor joins CraftyMonkies - a hearty welcome to Chris Marchini who kicks off what we hope will be a long & fruitful relationship with us & you - Chris teaches his fabulous Quilted Trucker Hat workshop which we're absolutely convinced you're all going to love, love, LOVE! Here's Chris to tell you more...

Introduction by Chris:-

Last summer I stopped by a yard sale because I heard they had some vintage fabric going cheap! Amongst the fabric scraps, I came across an old trucker hat (you know, the kind with the mesh on the back). It had 'Paris' on the front, and we had just returned home from a week in France, so I felt like it was fate. When I got it home, I realised it kind of smelled (like it was in a damp basement for decades). Well, my ADHD kicked in and one day I deconstructed the hat and studied how it was made. That got me thinking… “What if I use my quilty skills and re-made this?”. Well, 4 months and countless test sews later I launched my 'Quilted Trucker Hat'!!!

My pattern has step-by-step instructions to walk you through making a hat from a few fat quarters and some stabiliser, but in this workshop I’ll also give you some insider tips & tricks to have you making Quilted Trucker Hats for all your friends!

What You Will Learn in this Online Interactive Workshop:-

In this workshop we’re going to combine skills used for Quilting and skills used for Garment Construction to make a unique Quilted Trucker Hat. We’ll learn about different products that will give our hats structure and end with a professional looking piece we can all wear around town.

We will have some time allotted for preparation/quilting of the front panel, but if you want some more intricate quilting you may want to prepare this ahead of time.

I will be demonstrating my “masking tape hack” for a simple crosshatch quilting design, so students who want to do this will need some masking/painters tape, 3/4" or 1" wide is preferred.

Skill Level for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

Intermediate - Students should be confident in their sewing abilities; there are some fiddly bits with constructing the hat and attaching the brim, but we’ll work through it together, one step at a time!...

Material requirements for this Online Interactive Workshop:-

  • Your copy of the pattern (available to purchase, with a Discount Code, to all who book their place on this workshop) - the student should have all of the paper pattern pieces cut out prior to class start.
  • A marking tool of some kind to trace your pattern onto the fabric (Pencil, Frixion pen, etc.)
  • Scissors
  • Straight Pins
  • Sewing Clips (optional, but highly recommended)
  • 40wt sewing thread (a polyester or poly/cotton blend works well)
